Book Reviews for March

Hello everyone! As promised, I will be using this blog to share my recent reads and reviews. If you would like to follow me on Goodreads to get updates on my current reads, my username is Genevieve Dodson-Roy!

  • Time Loops & Meet Cutes by Jackie Lau – 2 Stars (3/22/26-3/31/26)

*SPOILERS AHEAD* I really liked the story. Reliving the same day, but the love interest somehow remembers things about you was a pleasant change from other recent reads of mine. But the writing itself is what gives the book this review. It’s probably closer to a 2.5-2.75, but it definitely isn’t a three star read for me. The writing at times felt very base level and not as introspective as other books tend to be during intense moments. I also feel that while the storyline of the sister believing her story made sense for who she was, the love interest basically blindly believing this insane story from a woman he just met felt too far fetched. And that scene (along with the scene where he got those memories back) felt way too rushed and not as in depth as I wanted them to be for how emotional the moment would really feel. I enjoyed myself, while at the same time wanting a little more than what I got.

  • Twilight by Stephenie Meyer – 2 Stars (3/11/26-4/1/26)

Why are people still reading this book?!? If it was 2010, maybe I could understand it. But we have so many other titles to chose from nowadays, it boggles my mind that people still willingly read this. I will admit, I probably would’ve liked this book in middle school, but I could barely stomach it as an adult. Bella is so “poor pitiful me” that she’s just insanely unbearable. Edward is an absolute creep masking it as young love. The dad wins the least present father of the year award. This whole book just annoyed me the entire time I read it. I probably would’ve DNF-ed it if it wasn’t this month’s book club pick.

  • Fake Skating by Lynn Painter – 4 Stars (3/24/26-4/5/26)

I have never read a YA book that gripped me this tightly! Reading Lynn Painter for the first time and knowing how much people love her, I will admit I was nervously excited. But I could not stop listening to this book! The narrators also helped a lot as they were super fun and enjoyable to listen to. But the story itself also felt like the most realistic depiction of teenage life I’ve read in a long time. They weren’t written like little kids or written like they were supposed to be adults. They were just written like teenagers. I truly cannot wait to read more by Lynn Painter.
